The shadows are long

The sun is creased

The wind jerks

at the branches of a Japanese elm

Tiny birds peck at seeds

The world stays upright

Water moves downhill

and pools at the bottom

Eyes gaze upwards

Minds are in awe

The sky is furious

and shows its lizard teeth

Children smile

They laugh at things

I forgot were funny

They live with no thought

of the consequences
