Below you’ll find “How ‘Bout Now,” the first track off The Himmelvaults Volume Vlll. The Himmelvaults series — I think there are eleven now— was dreamed up by my friend and record-biz-wiz Bob Duskis in 1999. He’d suggested I make a home, temporary or otherwise, for the songs I’d accumulated but didn’t end up using for an official release.
Most of the songs on Volume Vlll are fairly complete sounding demos and some feel more finished than I’d remembered. There are three songs on the collection, which were instrumental in my garnering a record deal on Island Records in 1985. On the morning of my meeting with A&R man Joel webber (may he rest in peace) I had with me the completed record This Father’s Day. I also brought along three songs, which are now on Vaults Vlll: ‘When It All Gets Stripped Away,” “Only One Life To Love You,” and “Breaking Out Of My Cocoon.” Note to anyone looking to get a record deal: Also have a few more things in your back pocket in case they want to hear more.
