In the autumn of 2020, COVID had turned New York City into place of fear and loathing. And since there was no place to perform and no one to perform for, I began a series of live broadcasts, which I called Songs and Stories From West 89th. I had a small bedroom in the apartment my wife and I were renting at the time. It served as my recording studio. Every week, for several months, I’d perform live virtual concerts. They were a means to connect with people, and to feel connected with them. All of it felt rare and sacred.
While many of the feelings I had during those trying days of forced separation have since faded away, the feeling of connection itself being a holy experience never did.
Here’s one of the shows from that series. I hope you enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed performing it.
May we see bright days ahead. Days of music, of joy, and of true peace.
